Nexium (esomeprazole) is a prescription medication used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), also known as heartburn, acid reflux, and erosive reflux. When heartburn occurs after eating a large amount of food, esomeprazole helps to reduce stomach acid from food. Prescription versions of Nexium (esomeprazole) work similarly and are available in 10mg, 20mg, and 40mg doses.
Nexium is used to treat acid reflux (GERD), heartburn, GERD, and erosive reflux. It works by reducing the amount of acid that the stomach is unable to break down. It is sometimes used to treat acid regurgitation (bloating with stomach pain and the back of the mouth) and to treat painful urination.
